Work is continuing in the fall of 2013 to develop the online toolkit with tools for engineers and policymakers to help explain the risks associated with these buildings and possible policy and engineering options.
Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are always needed to conduct more inventories–the toolkit will contain tools and guides for how to conduct.
Once the basic building inventory is complete (most commonly based on Sanborn maps), volunteers are needed for both physical and virtual surveys.
Volunteers are needed to understand characteristics of buildings in the various categories of concrete buildings–can buildings in a particular city be placed into several general categories, and can a typical building in each category be analyzed for its vulnerability.
Volunteers are needed to contribute more reports to the database of damaged concrete buildings.
Volunteers are needed to work with local governments to explore policy options, strategies and tools.
